I had the joy of first meeting and photographing sweet Arabelle this fall during her Fresh 48 session at the hospital. I loved seeing her and her parents again for her in-home, pretty lifestyle newborn portraits. Their Saratoga Springs home was the perfect backdrop for capturing their baby girl’s newborn session. There’s something incredibly special about documenting a baby in the home where they will grow, play, and make their earliest memories.
For this lifestyle session, we spent a lot of our time in the primary bedroom, which was the perfect light and airy space for relaxed family portraits. Their dog joined us too, which I always love when families include their pets in portraits. Lifestyle sessions are one of the easiest and most natural ways to incorporate dogs (or any pets!), because you’re in a space that they know well. There are also treats and toys nearby making it easy to bribe them and keep them calm. It makes it a smoother process as they can sit for snuggles, take breaks when they need to, and go to their own space when they’re done. It truly allows your pets to be part of the story without any stress added to the day.
Beyond being pet-friendly, in-home lifestyle sessions offer a level of comfort and familiarity that is especially wonderful for new parents. Instead of packing bags, planning around naps, or venturing out with your newborn, you get to simply relax in your own space. You can settle into your couch, cuddle up on the bed, or soak in quiet moments in the nursery, all while I capture portraits in the rooms where real life unfolds. There’s something so meaningful about photographing a family in their home, surrounded by the things and spaces that matter most.
For newborn sessions specifically, one of my favorite parts is documenting the nursery. So much planning and love goes into that little room. Arabelle’s nursery is the perfect example of how special that space can be. Her mom, Erin, is an incredibly talented interior designer behind Erin Mary Interiors who created the most stunning, thoughtfully curated room for her baby girl. Every detail was intentional and beautiful, and seeing little Arabelle peacefully snuggled up in the room that will hold so many adventures and bedtime stories was such a joy.
This session was pretty, soft, and full of the sweetest moments. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to document this new season of life for Erin, Dan, and baby Arabelle.
