There are certain sessions that stay with me long after I leave, and Fresh 48 hospital sessions have always held a special place in my heart. This particular session at Burdett Birth Center was for one of our Collective Membership families, and being invited into their hospital room to meet their one-day-old daughter, baby Mirabelle Rae, was such an honor.

Unfortunately, I had to stop offering Fresh 48 sessions in 2020 due to pandemic restrictions, and I have missed them greatly. There’s something so special about being invited into a family’s life when their new baby is only 1 or 2 days old, and often being one of the very first people to meet their little one! These first moments are raw and real and overflowing with emotion. Capturing that love and awe in new parents is breathtaking as they take in every feature of their little one.

I don’t photograph many Fresh 48 sessions at the moment. Due to the schedule flexibility they require, it is hard to fit them in during this current stage of life that my family is in. However, I absolutely cherish the sessions like this one that I am able to photograph. I look forward to offering them more regularly again when the timing is right for our family.

Needless to say, this Fresh 48 was extra special since I don’t get to photograph them often. Their hospital room had just one small window tucked in the corner, which meant the light created a moodier look than my usual light and airy style, but honestly, the emotion in the room overshadowed everything else. The awe on their faces and the beautiful connection between this family still shines through.

Fresh 48 sessions are truly about connection, emotion, and the story of you and your baby’s very first days together. Photographing Mirabelle with her parents made me remember exactly why I love them so much.
