Your baby’s first birthday is such a special milestone, not just for your little one, but for you as parents, too. It marks an incredible first year together full of growth, learning, and love. That’s why every first birthday session in my Saratoga Springs studio begins with family portraits before we dive into the cake smash and bathtub splash fun!

I’m a big believer that this milestone deserves to be celebrated as a family. The first year is filled with so many beautiful (and sometimes challenging!) moments. There are late nights, first smiles, tiny giggles, and so many “firsts” in between. There is so much joy and magic in watching new parents interact with their freshly minted one-year old. As parents, you know just how to get your little one to smile and laugh, you’re so proud of all their new skills and milestones, and that love truly shines in your smile and is what makes these portraits so meaningful.

While the main focus is always on your baby and their big milestone, I love taking time to capture a few portraits of the three of you together. These images tell the full story of your first year as a family, showing how much your baby has grown, and how beautifully you’ve grown into your roles as parents.

After family portraits, we move into the cake smash and bathtub splash portion of the session, which is always full of laughter and fun! Babies love exploring their cake (and sometimes wearing it!), and the little splash afterward makes for some of the happiest photos. You can see more cake smash and milestone sessions here!
