When John first reached out to plan a maternity portrait session as a surprise for his wife, Maureen, who was expecting their first baby, I knew it was going to be something special. My favorite part of the story, though, is what happened next. After we hung up the phone, John was so excited about everything we discussed that he immediately told Maureen all about it. He simply couldn’t keep the surprise to himself! I love that he was so excited about the experience that he had to share it right away. Maureen was absolutely thrilled, and before the evening was over we were already on the phone together talking through all the details for their maternity portraits.
I always love when families are just as excited about their portraits as I am. Creating a beautiful, meaningful experience for expecting parents (and all my clients), is one of the most rewarding parts of being a maternity photographer in Saratoga Springs. Their joyful maternity portraits in Saratoga Springs were definitely a highlight for me.
One of the details I loved most about this session was the soft sage green tones they incorporated into their wardrobe. Dad wore a sage green shirt, and later Maureen changed into a beautiful sweater dress in a similar shade. The color photographed beautifully in the soft studio light.
This color held meaning as sage green is the color they chose for their baby’s nursery. Including it in their maternity portraits felt like such a meaningful way to tie this chapter of anticipation to the space where their baby will soon grow and be loved.
This winter I’ve been leaning into more intimate seated portraits on the studio floor, and I absolutely love the connection they create. These poses allow couples to relax into each other naturally, which brings out such genuine emotion in their portraits.
For John and Maureen’s session, these moments became some of my favorites. The way they leaned into each other, laughing and smiling, captured the excitement and anticipation they are experiencing as they prepare to welcome their baby.
Maureen truly radiated the beauty of an expectant mother. She looked stunning in every outfit, and the joy on both of their faces was unmistakable throughout the entire session.
Maternity portraits are incredibly special because they capture a season that feels long in the moment but is actually quite fleeting. Pregnancy is filled with anticipation, excitement, and dreams for the future, and it deserves to be remembered. I’m so grateful these first-time parents chose to document this moment in their story.
