This beautiful session with this amazing family was truly special. I loved capturing these timeless, playful family portraits filled with connection, joy, and so much love. Lately, I’ve been leaning more into a more intimate style of portraits, and this session felt like the perfect reflection of that. We focused on connection above all else, using gentle prompts, natural movement, and real interactions to bring out the love this family shares and I couldn’t be happier with their final portraits.
Our light and airy studio was the perfect setting for this session. I adore the way the natural, clean light wraps around families and illuminates them. When mom came in to review her portraits with me, she was completely over the moon. She loved every single image, and seeing her joy and watching her take in those moments is exactly why I do what I do! That’s what it’s all about – capturing your family in a way that makes you stop and gaze in wonder at this beautiful life you have created together.
One of the things I’m most passionate about is encouraging families to document more than just the newborn stage.
Yes, those early days are incredibly special, but so are the months (and years) that follow. The giggles, the personality, the way your baby looks at you, the way they move, laugh, and connect with you…it all evolves so quickly. On top of that, your family changes during this time too, especially if you have other little ones, which is why I encourage family portraits in all older newborn sessions and milestone sessions.
During family and milestone sessions, one of my favorite things to capture is sibling portraits. Seeing how children grow over time and watching their sibling connection become stronger and sweeter creates such beautiful portraits. For this timeless family session, watching big brother Danny interact with Jack was such a joy, and I’m thrilled we were able to document their bond.
Jack was eight months old at the time of this session, and this stage is such a sweet spot, as it is full of expression, curiosity, and connection. He brought so much personality into the studio, and it made these portraits feel alive.
One of my favorite images from this session was a pose of Jack curled up in his dad’s hands, which is a pose I typically do during newborn sessions. Getting to recreate that with Jack at eight months old was so special. He still looked so tiny in his dad’s arms, but at the same time, you could see how much he has grown. His expressions, his squishy cheeks, his personality were all shining through.
Sessions like this are such a beautiful reminder that every stage of your baby’s first year deserves to be remembered. These are the moments and seasons of life that shape your family’s story.
If you’ve been thinking about updating your family portraits or documenting your baby’s milestones, I’d love to connect. There is so much beauty in these in-between stages, and they are just as worthy of being captured and preserved.
