Lilly’s first birthday cake smash was such a joyful and beautiful session to capture in our Saratoga Springs studio. It’s always an honor when families return to celebrate another milestone! I photographed big sister Reilly’s cake smash a few years ago, so getting to welcome them back for Lilly’s first birthday was truly a special moment.

For Lilly’s cake smash portraits, we kept things soft, feminine, and timeless with a white, blush, and sage green color palette, which was similar to the look we created for Reilly’s session. I love when families choose to carry design elements from one child’s session to the next. It creates such a beautiful sense of continuity when you look back on their portraits together, and looks so good when the photos are on display in your home.

Playful Floral Cake Smash Portraits

Our three-foot-tall “ONE” frame letters were the perfect addition to the set. They added just the right amount of structure and celebration while still keeping the overall look light, airy, and classic. Paired with the floral details, the entire setup felt playful, feminine, and elegant, creating beautiful timeless milestone portraits.

One of my favorite parts of any cake smash session is bringing siblings in for a few portraits after the birthday baby has had a chance to dig into their cake. These moments are always so fun and sweet. For these playful floral cake smash portraits, big sis loved getting to share in the celebration with her little sister.

Milestone sessions like Lilly’s are so meaningful. Being invited back to document a family’s milestones, from one child to the next, is something I never take for granted.I am so grateful to be able to capture Riley’s and now Lilly’s one year portraits.
