It’s so hard to believe that Baby Brooks is already a year old! It feels like just yesterday, he was coming into my Saratoga Springs studio with his parents for his newborn portraits. Now, he’s turned one and we planned a blue & white cake smash in Saratoga Springs for his birthday!

We chose a color palette to complement his newborn portraits with soft blues and whites. The pretty blues also made this sweet baby’s eyes pop! I loved that Brooks’ parents wanted to create a setup that would pair well with the portraits from his early days. It’s so fun to create portraits that can be displayed together from your baby’s first year.

Brooks was such a sweetheart and was truly a joy throughout the entire session. He loved snuggling with his parents before we dove into the cake. We even captured some portraits in my favorite heirloom white high chair. It’s so classic and timeless! Finally, we moved onto the cake for his smash. Brooks was excited to dig into his cake, though what he loved even more was the wooden spoon! He really lit up and got so animated waving it around. It was adorable. Even though he wasn’t super messy, we wrapped up the session with the clawfoot bath tub. It’s always a hit with the little ones, plus it ensures they head home nice and clean for their parents!

Tips for the Perfect Cake Smash Cake

I have a handful of local bakeries that I recommend to my families, and they all do an incredible job of designing beautiful cakes that match the themes and setups you select. After providing the recommendations for the bakeries, I’ll give families a few tips on what to look for and what to avoid in choosing a cake, and then the rest is up to you & the cake designer! Some of my clients choose a more elaborate cake to go along with their theme, and others prefer a classic cake with simple white buttercream frosting, which I also adore! Some of my favorite simple cakes have had pretty details piped onto them, like this one.
