I was invited into Callahan’s home to celebrate his arrival, and his parents were excited to capture cozy, heartfelt portraits in their favorite place. Their home was filled with lovely windows and ample natural light, and the nursery was beautifully decorated down to every last detail. It was the perfect spot for their lifestyle newborn portraits at home in Saratoga Springs and I adored getting to spend time with Baby Callahan and his parents.
We captured the sweetest family portraits with mom and dad, and even with their dog. We started the session in Callahan’s nursery. The space had the most gorgeous blue/teal accents throughout – including half the wall behind his crib and the curtains. I know it’s a space that Callahan will come to love as he grows bigger! Afterwards, we moved into their living room and Callahan’s parents’ room. Their entire home is simply beautiful and a joy to photograph. During the session, we were able to Incorporate their fur baby. It’s always a priority for my families that have pets, and lifestyle sessions are a great way to keep your dog in their space where they feel most comfortable, give them breaks and room to run around or rest, and come explore their new sibling when they are ready. Their pup was adorable and very interested in the new baby!!
This sweet boy (and his parents!) will get to look back at these portraits as he grows and remember the very first home his parents created and welcomed him home to. I just love that element about lifestyle newborn sessions!
Many families feel they need to clean up the spaces before I arrive. But, not every room needs to be perfectly immaculate. Newborn clutter and new-parent clutter is to be expected, and we’ll simply move it out of the frame. There’s no reason to stress about the items that are part of this journey!
Open up your curtains and let the light in. Also, turn off all overhead lights to avoid any color variation in the lighting. We want to focus on one source of light and I prefer natural light from a window whenever possible.
Choose your favorite spaces to cuddle up as a family. Usually the nursery, primary bedroom, and living room are popular spots, but really anywhere with great light or interesting (but not distracting) decor works wonderfully. I’ll walk through your home with you before beginning the session to choose a few places to photograph and make a plan for where to begin. These areas tend to be the most common, though!
