I absolutely adore this family AND Cape Cod, so combining the two was a dream. Their beach family portraits in Bourne, Cape Cod took place just steps away from their summer home, a place that holds so many memories for their family. There is something incredibly meaningful about photographing families in places that hold meaning to them. Years from now, these portraits won’t simply remind them what everyone looked like during this season of life; they’ll remember the salty air, the sound of the waves, and the feeling of being together every summer at one of their favorite places on earth.

Joyful Cape Cod Beach Session

I first met this family a decade ago in Boston during one of my first Celebrating Motherhood events in the South End. At the time, they had a brand new baby girl who was only a few weeks old. Since then, they’ve kept in touch and I’ve captured other family portrait sessions, but this is the first time we were able to finally schedule a session at their Cape Cod summer home.

Family sessions with kids typically bring their own playful energy, but there is something about a beach setting that adds to the overall fun vibe. Being at the beach brings out the childlike wonder in everyone with the feeling of sand beneath your feet, the excitement of dipping your toes in the water, and the joy of sunsets and searching for shells along the shoreline.

Beach portrait sessions also tend to be more relaxed, as everyone is just having fun and making memories, which is exactly what I want every family to experience. I love how joyful this session was with the girls playing in the sand and enjoying the endless open space to run and explore.

They simply enjoyed being together in their favorite place and it meant so much to me to be able to capture this moment and these summertime memories for them on the Cape.
