Milestone sessions are always so much fun. First birthday’s are the best because they are becoming their own little person and you can see their personality, which I just love. For sweet baby Wolfe’s first birthday session we went all out with a Harry Potter cake smash with a light & airy Hogwarts backdrop.

Before the cake smash though, we captured a few family portraits as I always do! It is so important to include family portraits in both newborn and milestone portraits. These are your milestone too, and it is so fun and special to look back on these moments together as a family. I could tell right from the start that Wolfe was going to be fun! He was full of smiles and crawling around with curiosity as one year olds often do. We then transitioned to the Harry Potter theme and cake smash portion, which was such a treat!

Harry Potter Cake Smash with a Light & Airy Hogwarts Backdrop

Wolfe’s parents are big Harry Potter fans, and it was so much fun incorporating their Harry Potter memorabilia as props into the session. From books to a sorting hat to flying keys, a wand, and a quill, these little items made a big impact on the beautiful setup when paired with our custom watercolor backdrop of Hogwarts. We even had a pair of Harry’s iconic glasses, which looked absolutely adorable on Wolfe!

When we brought the cake out that featured the maroon and yellow, Gryffindor colors, Wolfe didn’t hesitate one bit. He dug right into his cake! This was so much fun because not all babies love the cake smash portion of a first birthday session, and few babies truly smash it. Seeing his reaction and enthusiasm for the cake was a fun surprise that had us laughing the whole time. This was a true cake smash session and it was amazing.
