I had the joy of welcoming sweet baby Frankie and her beautiful family to my studio in Saratoga Springs recently for her newborn portraits. I truly loved creating family portraits for this family of four. We created an elegant session to celebrate their new baby girl featuring neutral backdrops, some pops of purple and greens, and the most adorable big brother.
The early toddler years can be some of the trickiest for family portraits, and that window from age 1.5-2 is filled with independence-seeking behaviors from little ones. Many parents worry about how their older children might behave during a session as toddlers. I tell every family that I work with – I never expect your children to be angels. Instead, I just expect that they will act their age! I want to find ways to keep your little one’s attention without expecting them to act twice their age.
As a mom of two, a former first grade teacher, and a photographer for 13+ years, this means that I see everything under the sun when it comes to behavior, and nothing phases me. Trust me. I’m here to make your experience easier and more enjoyable, and I will do everything in my power to get your little ones engaged during the session. Because that is when we capture magic like this, and those are the memories you’re going to cherish forever.
For Frankie’s session, her big brother Reece was amazing. Absolutely incredible. This sweet boy loved playing along with my games, was 100% into my little “tricks” to get his attention and make him smile, and gave us his all when it came to sibling and family portraits. These are some of my favorite sibling portraits on the rug, and I can’t get over his sweet little expressions when cuddled up with his sister. I hope that their parents love these portraits as much as I do!
After all of the family and sibling portraits were done, we focused on Frankie’s individual portraits. Her parents chose simple pastel wraps and a few florals to add into their setups. We kept everything clean and elegant so their new baby girl was the focus of the portraits. I was thrilled to break out my stroller and lavender pieces for one of her setups, too! (Read more on my favorite props and setups here).
Thank you to Frankie’s parents for trusting me to capture these special early days for your family of four! I loved getting to meet your beautiful new little girl and watch Reece be the most adoring big brother ever. Congratulations to all of you.
