While I host holiday mini sessions each year in my Saratoga Springs studio, I also make sure to capture my own children’s Christmas Portraits too. The best part about photographing these annual photos is looking back on the collection of holiday portraits and seeing how they’ve grown, relieving each of those seasons, and also taking a look at all the different backdrops I’ve had over the years! You can read all about this year’s holiday mini sessions and my two setups here!
My two children, Grayson and Adelaide, had a blast in the studio. However, taking photos of your own kids is a million times more difficult than taking them of someone else’s children! I had dozens of outtakes with all sorts of expressions and silly antics. I ended up with a collection of portraits I love! I’m excited to share another year of my own little ones’ holiday photos!
Adelaide is in a stage where she loves dressing up. She is constantly pulling her dress-up clothes out and changes her outfit a million times throughout the day. She was beyond excited to wear her “snowflake princess dress” and sparkly shoes, which I chose to match our present arch perfectly.
Grayson has been taking photos in the studio for 7.5 years, and he kept asking for just a few more. He is so photogenic, which comes in handy for me when I need a model! His more formal outfit complemented the present arch setup and his sisters dress perfectly. For the trio of wreaths set up, they both dressed in matching Christmas pjs, which are always a holiday favorite.
These Christmas portraits of Grayson and Adelaide mean more to me than I can ever put into words. Someday, they’ll look back on these portraits the same way I look at old family albums now, remembering how it felt to be little at Christmastime. Until then, I’ll continue to cherish the silliness, the outtakes, the dress-up phases, the matching pajamas, and all the moments in between. This is why I photograph Christmas portraits each year – for the memories, the legacy, and the magic that only this season brings.
