I’ve been lucky enough to photograph this sweet boy and his family since the day he was born! (Who remembers the maternity session I photographed in the hospital, just hours before the baby was delivered? That was Thomas!). He is rounding out his year with the Collective Membership, and we’ve enjoyed documenting all of his milestones this year.

Black & White Cake Smash Inspiration

When we began talking about Thomas’ cake smash, it was only fitting that his moms wanted to display their favorite memories from their first born’s first year with a photo backdrop of black & white images! I have done this with other families and it’s always a beautiful and unique setup – perfect for celebrating your most special memories from your baby’s first year of life. Before diving into his cake, I captured new family portraits of Thomas and his parents. He looked like such a little grown boy in his button down shirt and although I’ve literally watched him grow before my eyes, it was wild to see this little guy as a one year old during our session.

Before his real cake came out, we captured more portraits in my favorite heirloom high chair. It’s such a classic and simple setup to really focus on baby! Thomas’ moms planned a cake to coordinate with his nursery to add one more sentimental memento to the session. The little spotted fondant dinosaurs were the cutest! It was a perfect pop of color and I like the subtle nod to a spot they’ve all spent a lot of time in this past year.

Happy first birthday, Thomas! I cannot believe I’ve had the honor of photographing you for an entire year now. It’s been so special to watch you grow up and I can’t wait to see what’s ahead for you and your amazing parents!
