Happy birthday, Elowyn! It’s hard to believe this sweet girl is already one. It feels like we were just in my Saratoga Springs studio to capture her newborn portraits – including her big sister Brynnlee pushing her in my favorite stroller. Now, she’s a big one year old! We celebrated her first birthday with a pastel princess cake smash in the studio, inspired by this family’s love of princesses!

Pastel Princess Cake Smash

Mom has photographed her baby in princess costumes every single month since she was a newborn, so doing a princess theme to culminate her first year was an obvious choice for her cake smash theme! I’m so happy that we could create a pastel cake smash that felt classic and timeless, while still highlighting such a special memory for these ladies over the last year. I love incorporating your baby’s interests (or themes from their first birthday party!) in the setup, but sometimes they don’t feel classic. I always strive to find a way to take that inspiration and create something that fits in the style that parents choose me for: simple, classic, and focused on baby!

For Elowyn’s session, we found the sweetest watercolor backdrop featuring some gowns inspired by their favorite princesses. Paired with a bright sprinkle covered smash cake (and the cutest pink dress and headband), Elowyn looked the part of a princess herself. Of course, before the cake came out, we captured new portraits of Elowyn and Brynnlee – recreating special moments from the sisters’ first portraits together in my studio. The floral chair and the boho stroller were both inspired by portraits and setups from the newborn session. In fact, big sister Brynnlee spotted the stroller up on my shelf and remembered pushing her baby sister in it a year ago, and asked if we could do that again! I love that not only did we create such moving portraits, but the time in the studio stood out to this sweet big sister.
