Celebrating Joseph’s first birthday was such a special way to wrap up an incredible year together. As one of our Collective Membership families, I’ve had the joy of documenting his milestones throughout his entire first year, and it has been so much fun watching his personality emerge from one session to the next. From the very beginning, we’ve carried a classic blue and white color palette throughout all of Joseph’s portrait sessions. Not only is this timeless combination beautiful, but it also creates a cohesive collection of portraits that flow seamlessly together when displayed in albums or artwork throughout the home. Soft, subtle colors like these allow the focus to remain exactly where it belongs, which is on your baby. As a Saratoga Springs photographer, timeless portraits that will still feel beautiful decades from now are always my goal.

A Classic Blue and White Cake Smash for Baby’s First Birthday

For his cake smash, I especially loved how the blue and white balloons almost looked like bubbles floating in the background, adding a playful touch while still keeping the overall look simple and timeless.

We celebrated his first birthday portraits with a simple white cake from Sweet Elevation Bakery. The whipped cream frosting was so easy to smash, and he thoroughly enjoyed digging in if you can’t tell from his big smiles and frosting covered face!

We also captured family portraits together before the cake smash fun began, which is something I always love to include in milestone sessions. A baby’s first birthday isn’t just a celebration of turning one; it’s a celebration of your family’s first year together!
