There is something so special about celebrating a baby’s first birthday, and Arabelle’s first birthday portrait session at the beach on Cape Cod was the sweetest way to wrap up her first year of photographs! Her family is part of my Collective Membership, which means I’ve had the joy of documenting her growth throughout her first year. From those early newborn days to all the changes that happen in between, watching little ones grow is one of my favorite parts of being a baby photographer.
Sometimes, the simplest details make the most adorable portraits! Mom brought along the cutest birthday hat for Arabelle. I also brought a wooden cake prop from my studio to complete the setup. We kept everything simple, allowing Arabelle to be the star of the show. The beach provided the perfect natural setting for her first birthday portraits.
We met up at the beach in August during her family’s summer vacation to Cape Cod. With the ocean as our backdrop and the sunset creating the most gorgeous warm glow, it was the perfect setting to celebrate this sweet milestone. I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful evening to celebrate Arabelle turning one. Everything we captured, from her individual milestone portraits to the sweet family moments, were absolutely gorgeous.
Arabelle’s session is a wonderful example of why I created my Collective Membership. Your baby’s first year is filled with so many changes! Having multiple portrait sessions allows us to document those stages as they unfold. Instead of trying to capture everything in one session, we can create a collection of portraits that tells a fuller story of your baby’s first year.
Most importantly, your sessions don’t all have to look the same! Some families love the timeless simplicity of my light and airy studio, while others enjoy incorporating an outdoor location that’s meaningful to them, like this family did on the Cape. With a little planning, we can create a variety of portraits that reflect your family and celebrate your baby’s growing personality.
Ending Arabelle’s first year with a sunset beach session was such a lovely way to bring everything together. The natural setting, sweet birthday details, and warm evening light made these portraits feel especially memorable. Not to mention, being invited back to document these milestones is such a privilege, and I never take it for granted.
