When most people think of newborn photos, they often imagine those early days within the first two weeks of life. However, older newborn portraits are just as special and perfect! I love both and truly believe that there is no perfect or right time for newborn portraits, because each moment is worth capturing and remembering.
This sweet baby girl came into the studio at five weeks old for her newborn session, and it was such a perfect reminder of how special the slightly older newborn stage can be. At this age, babies are often more awake and aware of the world around them. While they may be a bit more wiggly than a sleepy newborn, they also provide much more interaction. This little one did exactly that.
She was wide-eyed for so much of her session, taking everything in with the most curious, gentle expressions. Those bright, alert moments are some of my favorites to capture. I love watching older babies look up at her parents or track the subtle changes in expressions, and all of those in-between details that pass so quickly in these early weeks.
She looked absolutely adorable swaddled in a variety of soft wraps and headbands, as well as a cute little dress, all of which perfectly complemented the light, timeless aesthetic of my Saratoga Springs studio. The family kept their wardrobe classic and simple, with white tops and jeans for a clean, cohesive look that will never go out of style. This kind of styling allows the focus to remain exactly where it should be, which is on your baby and your connection as a family.
While we always include family portraits with mom and dad during newborn portraits, this family also included grandparents, which made the photos even more meaningful with three generations together. I know these images will only grow more valuable with time. It was such a special moment and you could feel the love surrounding this sweet baby girl.
Sessions like this are such a wonderful reminder that there is no perfect time for newborn portraits. Whether your baby is five days old or five weeks old, it’s worth documenting.
